Susquehanna Yoga
12-A W. Aylesbury Rd.
Timonium, MD 21093
Fifteen years ago, Suzy Pennington decided to pursue her passion for yoga and gave up a career teaching business students at the University of Baltimore.
She found commercial space in Towson and opened up Susquehanna Yoga. Back then, it was one of just two yoga studios in Baltimore and yoga was considered a “new age” fad.
After outgrowing its space in Towson, Pennington relocated Susquehanna Yoga to its current location on 12-A West Aylesbury Rd. in Timonium.
The studio specializes in Iyengar yoga classes. Developed by B.K.S Iyengar, this type of yoga emphasizes proper body alignment and uses straps, blocks, cushions and blankets so students do not injure themselves in a yoga pose.
In addition to classes, Susquehanna Yoga hosts weekly meditation sessions and a bi-monthly film series that explores topics related to spirituality and meditation. The studio’s boutique sells DVDs, books, clothing, yoga props and other items.
Baltimore magazine honored Susquehanna Yoga as “Baltimore’s Best Yoga Studio” in 2010. The magazine noted that its teachers are rigorously trained and offer high quality instruction. In 2011, Baltimore Magazine cited it as “the real deal” in its issue on Baltimore’s “Best Gyms and Health Clubs.”
Pennington recently began instructing Johns Hopkins School of Medicine students and will expand her teaching to include nursing students.
