You can now see 20 young sharks on display at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. They’re the star attraction of the aquarium’s new $12.5 million Blacktip Reef exhibit, which opened Aug. 8 on the aquarium’s 32nd anniversary.

The 13,500-square-foot exhibit recreates a coral-filled Indo-Pacific reef, visible through floor-to-ceiling windows. Blacktip Reef showcases more than 600 other sea creatures representing 65 species, including Calypso, a 500-pound green sea turtle and a whipray — a species of stingray — with five-foot-wide fins.

"Cobalt-blue surgeonfish and dazzling diamondfish, among others, will glide around lumbering rays and become one with a “reef” that is, in fact, made of 3,000 pieces of painstakingly crafted man-made coral," writes the Washington Post. "Visitors can watch from high above, from just a few feet away from the water and through underwater windows as the sharks race dizzyingly close to more than 600 other fish."
