Dr. Bruce Thompson, president Clinical Trials & Surveys Corp. (C-TASC), a clinical trials solutions company based in Owings Mills, has been awarded the 2010 Innovation in Clinical Research Award from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), a global association comprised of more than 20,000 individuals in over 60 countries dedicated to clinical research and development.
The Innovation in Clinical Research Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated creativity and innovation in adapting or implementing new or improved processes into a clinical trial function. Dr. Thompson, who has specialized in supporting best practices management of clinical trials for government, university and private organizations for more than 20 years as head of C-TASC, was honored for C-TASC's development and implementation of a Web-based software system that manages clinical trial data more efficiently and cost-effectively, ACRP says.
Since implementing the technology, called StudyCTMS, C-TASC grew from a $5 million operation in 2008 to a projected $10 million operation in 2010 and will nearly double its staff from 35 to 60 employees. In the future, C-TASC says it plans to release StudyCTMS as an off-the-shelf product that will enable small- and medium-sized researchers to affordably conduct clinical trials in a manner consistent with FDA standards.
"ACRP is pleased to recognize Dr. Thompson with its Innovation in Clinical Research Award, as he exemplifies the creative and innovative spirit the award is intended to celebrate in clinical research professionals," sats David M. Vulcano, immediate past chair of the ACRP Board of Trustees. "Those who earn this award have spearheaded projects that led to either time or cost savings, enabled better patient care and/or safety, and opened avenues for being reproduced by others in similar situations or circumstances."
