Jessie Benson, a Baltimore area native, grew up in Towson until her parents built a house out in the old Cloverland Dairy property. Following four years in Florida for college Jessie returned to Baltimore, eventually moving to Federal HIll.
She says the neighborhood's young atmosphere and her sense the it felt like it has more a tight knit neighborhood then many other parts of the city are what attracted her to the South Baltimore community.
Since taking up residence in Federal Hill in September 2009, Jessie says she loves her neighborhood.
"Everything I need is a footstep away. I live on Battery Avenue so I can easily walk to Cross Street Market to get produce or fresh bread for dinner, meet friends at one of the many happy hours, or go up to Federal Hill park for a picnic. I have so many friends in the neighborhood so every time I go out I always see a friendly face."
A place of apart"There really is a nice neighborhood feel. Maybe it is because it is more condensed then say, Fells Point, but I feel safe and as though everything is within a few blocks away. The youthfulness of the neighborhood is unique as well. It really is a great place to live for those in their 20's and 30's," Jessie says when asked what makes Federal Hill unique among Baltimore's many neighborhoods.
"I love the nightlife, going out dancing with friends at Mad River or Stalking Horse," she continues.
When she's in the mood for a little shopping and entertinment, Jessie says she "loves
Babe a Boutique and
[D]iece.
The 8x10 occasionally has some great bands but hoping we will get some more live music in area bars and restaurants soon!"
Whether she's looking for a quick bite or a fancy dinner, Jessie says she can find it all in Federal HIll. "Can't beat
Maria D's for late night pizza and for a nice meal
The Wine Market in nearby Locust Point and
Corks are great choices.
Don't Know is a great choice for a more casual dinner. My new favorite treats are the "Spiked" Milkshakes at
Abbey Burger Bistro!
Convenient, Close, Community
"Being able to walk to both
M&T Bank Stadium and
Camden Yards, the view from Federal Hill,
Cross Street Market, the summer farmers market at the museum of industry, my easy commute to Hampden for work and being able to walk everywhere- the gym, grocery store, you name it!"she says.
"It is a great young, hip, trendy neighborhood that is always full of action!"
