Open Society Institute-Baltimore is hosting a one-day forum Oct. 29 to explore thought-provoking ideas on how the city can effect social change and make economic progress.
Big Change Baltimore will feature 12 speakers representing media, nonprofits, education, sports and other industries. Baltimore Ravens President Dick Cass will talk about how winning the 2013 Super Bowl brought the city together.
Other speakers include former U.S. Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros; Van Jones co-host of CNN's “Crossfire” and president of
Rebuild the Dream; and, Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and professor at the University of Maryland School of Law.
The event marks Open Society’s 15-year anniversary in Baltimore. The nonprofit focuses on finding solutions to the root causes of three intertwined problems: drug addiction, incarceration and obstacles that impede youth from succeeding inside and out of the classroom.
