Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras recently toured Baltimore in search of economic development ideas.
"Political, business and nonprofit leaders accompanying Chafee on these trips hope to learn ways to energize Providence and generate a new kind of economy in the state by capitalizing on 19.2 acres available for development.
By midday, both agreed Baltimore is a more realistic model for Providence than Houston, which they toured with university and political leaders in February. And both agreed there must be a streamlined permitting process for the land, Chafee said by telephone from Baltimore."
