It's your chance to see the rock stars of the future as
The School of Rock All-Stars take the stage Wednesday August 4, at
Bourbon Street. Young rockers' song list includes classics from U2, The Who, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Black Sabbath, Crosby, Stills Nash & Young, and more.
$10 from every
ticket will go to
Music for Relief, a non-profit organization established by rock band Linkin Park to bring the music community together to create awareness and raise funds for victims of natural disasters. The proceeds from this tour are specifically going towards the organization's relief efforts in Haiti.
If you're looking for something to do this weekend that's both cultural and outdoors, take in a performance at the
Summer Playwrights' Festival presented by Open Space Arts.
The
group will perform new plays based on the theme of freedom including,
The Great Molasses Flood watches the cloudy sky with a young couple trying to resolve their differences after years of dating. Contestants on a game show grudgingly work together in pursuit of the mysterious grand prize in
The Reward.
Two box turtles fall in love after their chance meeting in a pet store as
Shells begins, but soon after they must act to prevent their imminent separation at the hands of an annoying customer. In
Escape from Literary Prison, famous characters, including Sherlock Holmes, Juliet Capulet, and Ron Weasley, plan a jailbreak after being put behind bars for deviating from their correct plotlines. Recently accepted to Harvard, a girl explains her decision not to attend to the upper-class grandfather who raised her.
Open Space Arts is a coalition of artists, educators, parents, and community members who are dedicated to fostering a safe space where families can come together and create amazing art. The suggested donation is $9, $6 for children. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and bug spray to enjoy the outdoor show.
Since 2006, the community arts organization has produced three brand new full-length plays and last year's original one-act play festival. 2010 brings five new works on the theme of freedom alive this summer at Open Space.
The festival will run August 6 and 7, 13 and 14 with performances starting at 7 pm, and August 8 and 15 at 2 pm.
